Our mission Statement
Our Mission Statement is based on the Methodist Way of Life Principles which come under the headings of WORSHIP, LEARNING and CARING, SERVICE and EVANGELISM.
Our Mission statement was developed from this -
To be A Church,
Rooted in the Word of God,
Uplifted in Worship,
Growing together in Faith,
And reaching out in Love,
These words now form a cross which is displayed on the wall opposite the front door in the entrance to the Church. This formed part of the extension work.
The building of the Connect lounge was always part of our Mission Plan to make the Church more visible to the local community and provide a welcoming space to connect with the neighbourhood.
The words at the top of the large front windows also highlight what we hope to achieve. These are:
Connect with God,
Connect with Church,
Connect with Community
Connect with Friends
We aim to make our premises “A welcoming place open to the whole Community”.
MISSION PLAN
In seeking to be a loving, friendly community that worships God and serves others we have endeavoured to provide activities which assist members and the worshipping community to learn and grow in their faith. This is in the form of Bible Study and prayer opportunities. It includes the setting up of a prayer app, as it is realised that it is not always possible for people to get together at a prescribed time.
Many of our regular activities have a strong emphasis on helping the local community. This includes the Thrift Shop which provides good quality second hand clothes and household goods at a small cost. On the same morning “Coffee and Conversation” meets in the Connect lounge providing coffee/tea and cakes at a nominal charge and gives a safe space to meet and chat.
Moorland Park has been a distribution Centre for Lincoln Food Bank for 9 years. Opening for 2 hours on a Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. For the last 3 years an adviser from Citizens Advice (funded by Trussell Trust) has been available at the Tuesday afternoon session to help food bank guests with other problems such as benefit issues. Linked to this we collect Christmas gifts for families struggling as part of the “Christmas Sacks” project run by the Bridge Church. This is a city-wide initiative which supported about 600 families last Christmas who are referred by support workers. It shows how much can be achieved with different groups working together.
Our Girls’ Brigade Company offers a structured learning programme together with activities and fun for girls between 4 and 18 on a Wednesday evening and currently has 21 members. Their badge work includes Bible knowledge, so it is appreciated that the Wednesday is their “Church”. Deacon Helen is chaplain to the Girls’ Brigade Company and provides regular support to the officers.
The Church Leadership team tries to be open to new opportunities and initiatives, which will become part of our reaching out to the community. This includes updating our web site in recent months. Deacon Helen has started Being Creative which is an activity group on a Wednesday afternoon giving the space for anyone to join and bring their own craft activity as well as join in with pastoral conversation. A link has also been made with the Voluntary Centre Services which has resulted in a Social Prescribing Drop intaking place once a month.
We also try and acknowledge that it can be necessary to discontinue activities. For many years church members provided a Toddlers Group for young children and their parents. It was, with sadness, that it was decided after covid that it would not be possible to re-start the group because of the increasing age and health issues of the leaders together with the lack of new leaders called to take on the roles.
The Leadership Team has reviewed our current Mission Statement and have decided that it still is valid and that it encompasses what we wish to express.
